Barton Gilman LLP partner Frank Connor has been named a “Go To ADR/Mediation Lawyer” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.
The publication’s “Go To Lawyers” recognition highlights attorneys who demonstrate deep knowledge of their practice areas, a record of accomplishments, and the creative problem-solving skills needed to identify options for clients. These attorneys are also trusted resources whom other lawyers turn to for their experience and expertise.
Before focusing on his work as a mediator and arbitrator, Frank spent more than 30 years as a trial and appellate attorney, representing clients in Massachusetts and Rhode Island state and federal courts. His civil trial practice included medical malpractice and professional liability defense, business disputes, insurance and reinsurance matters, and catastrophic personal injury cases. For the past 20 years, Frank has served as a mediator and arbitrator, drawing on his trial experience to help parties work toward resolution. His background across a range of complex disputes allows him to understand competing perspectives and identify paths toward settlement.
“Effective mediation requires an understanding of how cases are handled through trial, appeal, and even re-trial, as well as an appreciation of the risks each party faces in the alternatives to a negotiated resolution,” Frank noted. “My years as a trial lawyer have shaped the way I approach my work as a neutral. I aim to help parties assess their cases realistically and identify opportunities to resolve disputes without the expense and uncertainty of trial.”
Frank’s contributions to the legal profession extend beyond his practice. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, an organization dedicated to preserving the right to civil jury trial, and has served as a municipal court judge in Barrington, Rhode Island, since 2013. Frank has also served multiple terms as managing partner of Barton Gilman and mentors partners and younger trial attorneys at the firm.
