Eve Brown in Washington Post article on Monster Energy v. Thunder Beast trademark case

Eve J. Brown was recently noted in The Washington Post article, “A D.C. root beer company, an energy drink behemoth and an ugly trademark fight.”

The article highlights the difficult impact of the trademark infringement case on Eve’s client, Thunder Beast, a craft root beer maker, against energy drink giant, Monster Energy. Monster Energy is well-known for bringing petty trademark claims to litigation as a way to bully and intimidate hundreds of smaller businesses.

Eve, who is representing Thunder Beast as Lead Counsel, is no stranger to Monster Energy’s trademark claims. In 2012, as the then director of Suffolk Law School’s Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Clinic, Eve lead a team that successfully defended another small business, Monster Fish Keepers, against Monster Energy’s claims before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Since then, Eve has successfully defended dozens of other clients in trademark matters against Monster Energy and other well-known companies, including Nautica and Guerlain.

Eve is an experienced intellectual property attorney, professor, speaker, and author. She has taught entrepreneurship and intellectual property law at MIT, Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern University, Suffolk University, and Indiana University. Eve currently holds an Assistant Professorship in the School of Justice Studies at Roger Williams University teaching Intellectual Property Law, Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility, and Shakespeare & Law.

Eve counsels creative artists and business owners in the film, music, literary, theatre, craft food and beverage, software, nonprofit, and product innovation industries, helping to develop, launch, leverage, and defend their ventures. Prior to joining the firm, Eve was the founder and principal of Bricolage Law, LLC. Eve earned her J.D. from the University of California at Davis School of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from Skidmore College. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and California.
