Barton Gilman attorneys launch employment law article series in business publication

Rhode Island Small Business Journal

PROVIDENCE (Jan. 6, 2014) — Matt Plain and Kristen Whittle recently launched an employment law article series targeting the concerns of Rhode Island employers.

The column — entitled “Personnel Practices” — will be published monthly in the Rhode Island Small Business Journal. Their first article analyzed whether a worker is an “employee” or “independent contractor”—an issue employers consistently find challenging.

“This is a great opportunity to provide insights and tips to Rhode Island business leaders on timely and important employment law topics,” said Plain. “They face these issues regularly, and we are pleased to provide information to help them better understand their legal obligations and rights under the law.”
