Barton featured in Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly article about Cabral case

PROVIDENCE – John J. Barton is prominently featured in the Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly article, “For med-mal lawyer, police-pursuit case presents different challenges,” in connection with his recent trial victory on behalf of the estate of Randy Cabral, a 17 year-old innocent bystander killed during a Providence high-speed police chase in March 2007.

Barton secured a $1.378 million verdict in the Superior Court case, with the jury finding recklessness on the part of a Providence detective, the city of Providence, and the suspect that the police were chasing at the time and that ultimately caused Cabral’s death. The Q&A-style article highlights the nuances and challenges of the case.
